Free the swivel!

Daniel Lisboa -

問題

I recently bought a Dell P2314H monitor, which comes with a "Height-adjustable stand, pivot, tilt , swivel and built in cable-management", as advertised on Dell's website. It's awesome, really, but the swivel adjustment turned out to be too sturdy, so when i try to turn the screen to either side, the base of the stand comes along, rotating against the table. So what's the point of a stand with swivel adjustment if it's too sturdy?

So I unplugged both the video and power cables, took the screen of of the stand and layed it flat on my bed. Then I turned the stand upside-down just to find four Phillips screws, which together with others under the EVA pads hold the plastic cover, and four square (Robertson) screws hoding the swivel mechanism. Well, thaks to the Pro Tech Toolkit I bought last year and it's 54 Bit Driver Kit, I was able to handle such unusual screws. I used the square size #2 bit, together with the T-handle, to loosen all the four screws JUST A LITTLE BIT. Then I put the screen back on it's stand and plugged the cables. Now my monitor swivels like a charm!

アドバイス

Don't loosen them too much! A quarter turn was too much on my case and i had to tighten them back.
