My 2011 iMac was not working well at all. It had slowed down, and I mostly just sat there looking at the spinning rainbow wheel. I tried a number of things, including reinstalling the OS. I ended up reinstalling the OS on an external hard drive so that I could boot from that and then reinstall it on the internal hard drive. When I used the external hard drive, the computer ran a lot faster than it had been for a long time, which made me think that the internal hard drive needed to be replaced.

修理

The repair went well. The instructions were easy to follow. Some of the wires were tricky to unplug, and I wasn't sure what the back of the power supply looked like or where it was, so the stern warnings not to touch it mostly just made me nervous, but aside from those two minor issues, the whole thing went very smoothly.

アドバイス

If using the spudger to unplug things isn't working, you might be able to use the curved tweezers, which can help you squeeze the tabs so that they release (e.g., the first thing you have to unplug once you get the display lifted up a bit).
