Upgraded dead mid 2007 iMac with SSD and T9300 CPU

Hard drive died. My first delve into computer guts. Drive seemed fine, head not stuck, but made clicking noise. Decided I wouldn't be able to recover. Maybe circuit board... Bought Evo 256Gig SSD and while looking around the delightful ifixit site, discovered the discussions about upgrading the CPU. Seemed a minimal cost upgrade so I bought the T9300. Enjoyed the process. The guides are so very well illustrated and textually detailed.

Everything went smoothly. Only problems: broke off one of the plastic tower that holds a screw at the edge of the circuit board. When I turned the screw with the screwdriver, the column just broke right off. Doesn't seem to be anything to be concerned about. I just left it. The other issue was I forgot to reconnect the heat sync sensor on the bottom side of the board. But I remembered a bout halfway through the installation. Now I'm very quick at disassembly and reassembly. Practice brings comfort and efficiency. My last issue was noting the CPU was listed as 400MHz with a 400MHz bus. But the computer was running great after I booted to Kapitan. So I wasn't terribly concerned and sure enough when I went back to Nandor's discussion about the T9300, it clearly states that it will appear as a 400MHz CPU. So all is good.

It seems a bit daunting to go for the CPU exchange, but it was not difficult and I think it was very likely worth doing while inside the computer. The conversion to SSD is a snap. I gerryrigged it by suspending it form the surrounding structure with electrical tape. Not the best , I know, but I'm guessing it won't get very hot and should be ok. I don't recommend this. I'm just confessing.
