問題

I have an original 2006 MacBook Pro 17" (model A1151), and all of a sudden my trackpad stopped working correctly. It would work for a little while, then it would think that I was trying to scroll. I would try to move the cursor with just one finger on the trackpad, but the trackpad would think that I had two fingers on it.

I tried resetting the PRAM, but that didn't help. Nor did cleaning the touchpad with computer cleaning wipes, rubbing alcohol, or a damp towel.

What's slightly odd is that when I didn't use the trackpad for a while and tried it again, it would start working briefly. After a short while it would go back to its errant behavior.

修理

I ordered a replacement Upper Case (A-stock), and yesterday I went through the replacement guide. It took between 60 and 90 minutes, including putting everything back together again.

My keyboard only had 9 screws instead of 10, but otherwise everything went as expected.

Now my trackpad works again! Hooray! I was getting sick of my cheap Bluetooth mouse that liked to double-click when I was trying to click only once. Stupid debouncing issues...

アドバイス

I wasn't sure if a replacement Upper Case would solve my trackpad issues. I'm very glad it did! $300 is much cheaper than a new MacBook Pro. :-)
