    • Flip the vacuum so the bottom base is visible.

    • Gently pry the bottom two wheels off with a plastic opening tool.

I don’t know why these companies use a screw that most people don’t have around the house to fit it.

These are in st tight it snaps when it finally turns.

I can’t even use mine now that I have to go out and buy this tool and I have a lot of tool. Not this one. Come on guys.

    • Locate and twist the three plastic screws to the unlock position with a quarter or flathead screwdriver.

They don't have Phillip's screw heads. They have Star head size T15

    Matthew Heddle - 返信

Yes, mine are not PH2 but star 15, my problem is I cannot reach two of the screws that are so deep into the molding of the plastic, I cannot get my star T15 in there. Now what?

    Nunya -

Mine had Phillips on all the steps.

    Martin Garcia - 返信

I have been so happy with my Shark until NOW.

    • Grab the vacuum on both sides of the hose and pull up to remove the top of the vacuum halfway.

What if it's stuck on one side I don't want to break

    Amanda - 返信

Mine is not opening as wide as the one pictured here; very difficult to get my fingers in enough to grip. Any suggestions?

    debi stanton - 返信

Did anyone find away to get it unstuck/ to open

    Juanita - 返信

Wish mine came off that easily. I'm afraid if I pull up any harder, it will break.

    Ann Ervin - 返信

I thought I broke plastic two or three times when prying stuff apart, but everything seemed intact and snapped back into place OK. Some wires kept trying to poke out by one of the wheels, though.

    Paully Wally Doodle - 返信

A note to Reassembly- be very careful that the 3 wires coming out by the right wheel are tucked into the protective guide hole on the wand end.(1/2" circular hole with slit for wires) Then when you seat the assembly in the body they're not pinching and still in the guide hole.
I had to do a repair because I had previously not paid attention to the wires and the power wire pinched apart.

My shark same model as this the screws definitely aren’t a Phillips head. I tried all them * star screwdrivers Allen wrench I can’t get them off. Please help.

    • Remove the rotary belt on right side of vacuum from the bearing.

    • Gently lift the casing to remove the belt and brush from the vacuum.

Did everything as instructed, putting it back together I'm having a difficult time getting the plastic housing back because of a little white piece that's on the motor. Any suggestions?

Remove the two motor mounting screws. Rotate the motor out of the way

The worst just to get the roller brush out for a good cleaning! My experience of taking out these brushes is over 30 years. I have removed my vacuums brush roller at least once a month to clean. Totally not acceptable won't buy another Shark!

    Simply Raw - 返信

Can I remove the roller brush altogether and use the vacuum for suction alone? My wool rugs should not be vacuumed with a beater bar, only suction. Thanks!

    • Remove the rotary belt attached to the brush and replace it if needed.

What model are these specific brushroll

    Albert Einstein - 返信

I did all that and had no problem. Due to rug fibers that were lodged in the plastic casing, the plastic itself deteriorates overtime. After cleaning the brush and the plastic casing on both sides it became loose and won’t hold or stay to hold the brush anymore. Where can I order those plastic casing?

    Please help me.

    Thank you

THE worst! I've taken rollers out for over 30 yrs once a month to clean them. Should be super easy and not so many steps to do this. I won't buy another Shark this is not acceptable

    Simply Raw - 返信

Directions really helped. Thanks so much. Definitely not user friendly roller or belt replacement. Vacuum engineers apparently wanted suction performance over ease of roller and belt replacement. Either that or they are into schadenfreude! 😀 Vacuum works great, so worth the ordeal.

This is a well written and very informative tutorial. Thank you for your time and effort. However, I am finding it difficult to locate a new rotary brush for my Shark Rocket model HV301. At best, I’ve been told that the rotary brushes available ‘May fit’ my vacuum. Hardly a resounding voice of confidence when ordering a replacement part. Does anyone know the part number or ordering information regarding the Shark Rocket model HV301 rotary brush? Thank you for your time.

TCP - 返信

I also need a new brush did you find out where to get one and could you pass it on to me thank you

Jeffro -

Hi, I'm also having a hard time trying to find the rotary brush roll, does anyone have any suggestions where I can find & purchase it?

Rosalina Padilla -

Try Amazon.com there are several parts for shark vacuum, just make sure to have the model number in hand. I hope this help.

Thanks!

I want to give this author 30 points only because that seems to be the maximum. Excellent work; thank you very much.

Thank you ever so much! Who would have thought you’d have to disassemble the vacuum just to get to the roller. Yes, I agree - very poor design. I too am having an issue with the brush. I soaked it in dawn dishsoap and voila! Clean brushes made the world of difference - hope that helps!!

Thank you!!!

Oh! Just a suggestion. If my brush fails completely I thought I might try contacting the manufacturer directly which is in China named Intertek?…

ahenningmo - 返信

Just called shark directly, you cannot buy just the brushroll, you have to buy the entire head. $96 plus shipping and handling. they do not just make the brushroll to be replaced, so MAY FIT your machine will probably be the best you can do.

These instructions were very easy to follow. They actually saved me. I needed to wash the brush bar and change the belt, but I thought they were going to be a nightmare to get it out. Everything worked out great.

Yea I used dawn dishwashing detergent to clean the roller brush and other parts. My problem now is where to order the plastic casing that holds the roller brush. Do you know where I can order parts for this model?

I also want to thank the author of the toturial it is really informative. 30 points for the author.

Thank you!!

Andres B - 返信

Try any vacuum cleaner repair shops most will have the parts you need or can order them for you

moffattkim85 -

If the brush roll is damaged you have to replace the whole head because the brush roll is not available separate from the power nozzle.

Great!!! Is there an easy way to pop out those plastic casings at either end?? They are not easy to pry out ——

Pat Garcia - 返信

I am very mechanically inclined, and a normal vacuum cleaner belt would be a breeze could do it with my eyes shut this took me an hour. One bcuz my daughter got my nails done that didn't help at all the little white things you gotta pry off the heater bar was a ##&&% cut myself with a butter knife ?????? even I laughed after I was done cussing. The directions were great putting it back together was a ##&&% but I went back to the directions and hot the job done . Thanks for the help guys. Sincerely Kim Moffatt

Has anyone tried a different roller that ‘MAY FIT’ and found a compatible one? I have the HV300 26 and have counted on it for years. Had taken it apart several times in the past and cleaned it out. My daughters help out by cutting the hair out with scissors. It’s been done so much that the white casings have completely worn. They’ve been shaved down by scissors and now the roller is loose! I’d love to keep this vacuum if there were any roller brush out there that would fit? Even if I could order those white end caps (haven’t found that either). Any suggestions?

(Yeah, I know… buy a new one!)

JMurray - 返信

Very good instructions . All i need now is the right brush. sent model # to get a new brush. The brush sent will fit any vacuum maybe but not this one. Got to stop buying this junk.

Need help replacing hose on floor nozzel model

Michelle chandonnet - 返信

My roller brush would not budge at all. It was locked up. I found that the plastic cap at the end of the roller opposite the belted end wouldn't come off. After a lot of effort I was able to pry it off. I found that end was all frozen up with threads and some hard, difficult to remove gunk. Once I cleaned up the inside of the roller and plastic cap, the roller brush turned freely.

Terry - 返信

My roller was seized too. I had to replace mine since the plastic melted.

I have a shark HV 301 26.

It has only dry mop / vac head.

There seems to be electrical connection when you remove the head.

Is there a compatible brush head for this model?

robhedemann - 返信

Thanks, Jonathan. Directions and visuals made all the difference. Well worth 30 points and much appreciated.

ronboone@comcast.net - 返信

Can I remove the roller brush altogether and use the vacuum with suction alone? I have wool rugs and they recommend no beater brush.

Angela Grammatico - 返信

Replacement brushrolls are not available for many Shark products. They want you to buy a new vacuum cleaner.

phelmerwas - 返信

I don't understand why the guide says this has #2 philips screws. All of the ones on the model I own are T15 tamper proof bit

Jamesareid - 返信

I needed to buy a different bit set to repair mine, but this was so incredibly helpful! Thank you Author!
