This guide will explain how to remove and install a new torsion spring in a Rubbermaid Rolling Commercial Industrial Mop Bucket, Model #907680A1. The spring design is used across many Rubbermaid WaveBrake Side‑Press Wringers models, so this guide can be used to replace the spring for other buckets.
The spring provides tension that allows the wringer handle to move and return to its resting position after each press. When the spring becomes stretched or broken, the wringer will no longer return to its resting position. The wringer will feel loose and offer little to no resistance, causing the handle to fall forward on its own.
A heavy-duty opening tool or a flathead screwdriver will be needed to detach and reattach the spring. Use caution when working around the wringer's spring mechanism. The pivot rod and surrounding metal edges can create pinch points. Avoid placing your fingers near the spring's path while removing or installing the new spring.
