Quantum XTR05 Pinion Gear Replacement

This is a step-by-step with photos that will show you how to replace your Quantum XTR05 pinion gear in your spinning fishing reel. This will ensure the functionality of your spinning reel and will help to mitigate a failure within the span of the reel's lifetime.

No outside tools are needed for the replacement process.

    • Unscrew by turning the cap counter-clockwise until it is separated from the spinning reel.

    • Remove the spool line completely by pulling it away from the reel body.

    • Remove the gear by pulling it up and off of the pinion.

    • Replace the pinion gear with your new one by aligning the shape of the gear opening and the pinion.

    • Place the spool back onto the pinion.

    • Ensure that the spool is fitted properly.

    • Place the spool release and drag adjustment piece back onto the top of the pinion.

    • Screw the spool release and drag adjustment back into place in a clockwise direction until desired tension is achieved.
