Starting at the peak of the headband, push inward below the seam, between the plastic headband and cushion, to create a gap.
Work your way down the headband until the cushion is exposed.

Use a metal spudger to carefully pry the rest of the cushion cover away from the plastic headband.
It might look like it's being torn, but it's flexible and will pop back into place.
The cushion itself can easily tear.

Remove the cushion cover.
There is tape at either end of the cushion; remove the tape.
You can remove, replace, and re-tape the foam to make the cushion softer. As the rest of the cushion cover will do most of the work keeping it in place, special adhesive is not required.
