You will learn how to remove and install the resistance spring.

  5. Locate the spring on the scroll wheel. The spring looks like a small, metal piece of wire, coiled up in the middle. Very carefully, remove the spring from the wheel scroll.

  6. Replace the spring making sure it is placed on the right side of the wheel with the prongs pointing down. The right side is the side without the black plastic square as shown in the photos.

  7. Be aware of where the resistance spring is. This spring will easily fall off. Grab the scroll wheel and its mount and gently pull them apart.

This mouse was also available from Dell as an OEM device under the model name "M-UVDEL1". Hopefully the Google juice will help folks repair their devices. I know I would have spent far more time than I did if it weren't for the photos on how to put the spring back. Thanks Maximilian!
