How to Fix Nintendo Switch Joy Con Stick Drift

If the joysticks on your Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons are experiencing stick drift— the joysticks do not accurately respond to your touch or automatically moves in a certain direction without any input— you can resolve it by following this guide. With this method, all joysticks can be repaired, regardless of the model or type of Nintendo Switch. Stick drift issues are mainly caused by the build up of debris after extended use. By using common household items and without disassembly, the debris underneath the joysticks can be cleared, returning your Joy-Con to proper working conditions.

This guide does not require special skills, specialty tools or equipment, and can be completed in about 10 minutes.

    • Flip the device over.

    • On the Joy-Con that is experiencing stick drift, hold down the release button and slide the Joy-Con off.

    • Pour a small amount of rubbing alcohol onto the lid and dip your cotton swab into it.

This isn't the symptom of stick drift, at all. If there's debris causing movement, that would be instantly resolved if debris was removed. You wouldn't need to Calibrate it.
