For our fast fix project, we will fix the cork on a saxophone neck so that the mouthpiece can fit perfectly on the neck. What we hope to accomplish is a better understanding of ones cork and how to replace it. The cork of the saxophone is important because it’s what generates a good sound and tuning of the music. Many people may misdiagnose the unfixed cork with leaking, meaning the sound doesn’t come out too well, when all they have to do is fix the cork issue. This is a very safe repair with the only danger being the out of tune instrument one might experience. Usually when saxophones are new it is a very common problem that the fit of the mouthpiece is too tight, so by using sandpaper we can find the perfect point for the cork to be just tight enough but still loose enough to remove the mouthpiece with ease.
