    • Make sure you have all the pieces you need before beginning: Plastic or metal mini pry bars for removing the covers, small cotton buds for cleaning and rubbing alcohol for the actual cleaning part.

    • Have a clean desk or workspace with good lighting and make sure you are not hunched over while working (this is applicable to all work environments!)

    • Remove the batteries and the cover panel before doing any work on the controller.

    • Using the pry bar, gently insert it near the base of the trigger to get under the plastic panel.

    • Then, with a lever action, slowly pry the panel off until you hear the plastic unsnapping from it's mounting.

    • You might find it easier to swap between the front and back of the panel so as to not damage the panel if it is particularly sticky/stubborn.

    • Clean the trigger contact pad with the cotton bud dipped in some rubbing alcohol. Be careful not to soak the cotton bud too much, you don't want it dripping liquid inside the controller.

    • Also, clean the opposite surface on the underneath of the trigger key, the part that contacts the pad which is likely also sticky.

    • You can also see how much dust or dirt is inside the controller and in the cracks of the handles, might be a good time to tidy up!

  4. How To Fix Sticky Triggers Xbox One Wireless Controller Model 1708, Finishing up...: 手順 4、 1の画像 1
    • Replace the plastic panel by dropping it into place then firmly pressing down on the top of the panel until you hear the clicking of the little clips inside.

    • Make sure it is properly reattached since there are a few clips inside which help to keep the panel in place, you don't want this coming off again!

    • This can be done in the exact same way for both triggers, since they are both under an identical plastic panel and you can do this exact guide for both sides of the controller.

終わりに

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order: simply snap the back panel(s) back into place, making sure they are firmly secured. Then reseat the batteries and cover (or your equivalent) and enjoy happy sticky-free gaming.

The little rubber pad on mine is all torn up and is sticking really bad - ruining my Forza experience. I am going to scrape it all away, and replace it with a lil’ wee bit of felt. My guess is that all this little pad does is prevent the triggers from clicking too hard when bottoming out.

Yes that should work, from my experience with fixing a few of these different types of console controllers. The rubber pad is just a cushion for the triggers to stop them hitting the frame of the controller so anything shock absorbing material should do it, just nothing that will stick to the triggers! :)

Nothing worse than throttle stick into corners! Exactly why I am here as well lol

Ok, I had a problem with this and I thought this was it, but with some research later my situation spiraled into a monster of a problem with my trigger that require and entire replacement and I can’t find anything to help, not even a replacement part. If you can help, please do so

Hello, thanks for reply seems like a weird issue, did you have a problem with the trigger sticking or that you can press it down but it doesn't bounce back (like an issue with the trigger spring)?? I know that there is a small rubbery pad (see step 3 picture) that can come off and get stuck inside the trigger housing. Let me know some details and I will try to help :)

Great guide helped fixing the issue.

Super delayed response, but thanks for the feedback. Glad it worked for you! :)

In case anyone wasn't sure, I can confirm that this guide works exactly the same for the current-gen Xbox Series controllers

Galuade - 返信

Thanks for confirming, I can also reinforce this, as I have repair a dozen different Xbox controller models and this works for all the below:

2nd Gen c. 2015/2016

3rd Gen c. 2016-2020

4th Gen 2020++
For anyone interested, you can find out which generation controller you have with a quick web search. If you have 3 buttons in the centre below the lit up power/connection Xbox button then it's the Gen 4 (latest) models. Gen 2/3 can be distinguished by subtle differences in the frame shape and a colored plastic strip on the front/top edge between the two RB/LB bumpers :)

I used some tools made for sculpting clay, since I didn't have specific prying tools.
This led to 1. heavy scraching of the back of the controller 2. bending of the tip of the steel tool!

I don't put any blame on the guide mind you, I just can't believe how much force those clamps have, I whish it was screwed in instead.
For some reason, I also had to re-open and clean again. It's possible some stickiness comes from the removed panel.

My problem is however fixed now, without the need to purchase another controller (much more expansive than the sculpting tool!) and I can go back to Elden Ring NG++

That's good to hear and yes you will likely have sticky residue left from the old shock absorbing pad that was removed during cleaning. That happened to me as well and the solvent can be removed with some iso-propyl "rubbing" alcohol, similar to what you would do to remove thermal paste from a PC CPU

My problem was that the contact pad had worn away leaving behind the sticky adhesive residue that also got onto the trigger and made a sticky mess. I used a general purpose adhesive remover instead of rubbing alcohol to ensure that I got it all and it did the trick. To replace the pad, I used several plies of thinly sliced electrical tape strips, about 4 or 5, stacked on top of each other to create a new contact pad. Probably not the best material to use, but it's what I had lying around the house. Thanks, Zach!

Delayed reply, sorry about that! Glad to hear it worked and happy that people find this guide useful, also very resourceful using electrical tape, I have used small pieces of draft-excluder foam tape as well and that also worked well :)

Following this guide completely fixed my right trigger that was getting momentarily stuck when pulled in. I didn't have pry bar, and used a flat head screwdriver, although I'd recommend a pry bar, to minimize scratching of the plastic. Thanks.

Dave Patrick - 返信

Thanks for the feedback, I agree this is a problem with other repair work I have done. Metal tools are great for certain things but if you need to avoid scratching or damaging the item then plastic pry bars and spudgers are the way forward

Zach Smith -

Worked perfectly. Thank you for doing this. Man, that pad sure is brittle. I say this in 2023 when it's an Xbox One controller, so I can't be too upset! :) Just be mindful of that, folks. It's mentioned, but want to emphasize that.

Peter Walker - 返信

Yeah, that's true, they can get quite brittle after a while but as you said the controller is probably produced in 2016/17 and unfortunately not designed to last a long time. A previous comment about layered electrical tape slices or sticky foam tape/pads sliced to fit will be a good replacement for old/brittle pads

Zach Smith -

My triggers are actually sticking at the tops of the trigger or where they sit at rest. How would I go about cleaning those parts?

Adrianna Wrubel (SuperLlama) - 返信

Hi Adrianna,

Is this happening when you first try to press the trigger down rather than when they are pressed all the way in and don't spring back out?

There could be some plastic or dirt that is catching inside your trigger housing, the spring could also be knackered, dirty or even partially out of position. Best thing to do is follow a guide and take the trigger housing apart, make sure the spring is properly seated and clean around the edges where the trigger and the controller meet.

Let me know if you're still having issues :)
