If Cortana does not respond when spoken to, your microphone button may not be functional and in need of replacement. All you need for this replacement is a Torx #10 screw driver and a metal spudger tool.

Use a metal spudger to remove the rubber bottom.

Use a #10 Torx screwdriver to remove the four 14 mm screws.

Firmly grip the bottom and wiggle upwards to remove the base.

Use a #10 Torx screwdriver to remove three 10 mm screws from board attached to microphone button.

Pull the cable lightly to disconnect button board from device.
For replacement of microphone button, you will have to replace whole board that the buttons are attached to.
