This is certainly a job you can do yourself, and it doesn't break any seal so it's even warranty-safe.

Just make sure you use a screwdriver that fits perfectly! otherwise you'll end up damaging those little screws.

undo screw near the letter 'o' from 'open' that's indicated on the bottom left of the camera

now you have access to the battery.
The type is CR1616, 3V , lithium type, original brand as supplied by canon is Maxell.
Battery goes in with the +positive side down (as pictured)
