Asus Chromebook C202 Metal Bracket Replacement

This guide will demonstrate how to replace the metal bracket on the Asus Chromebook C202. The bracket may need to be replaced if the Chromebook is heating up unexpectedly or not cooling properly. This is a relatively simple guide to follow. There are many pictures throughout the guide that will aid you in replacing the bracket and show exactly what parts you will need to remove to access the bracket, pay attention to them so as to avoid damaging the laptop or its casing.

    • Turn the device over so the bottom is facing up.

    • Remove the ten Phillips #1 8.0 mm screws.

    • Carefully use the plastic opening tool to pry the palm rest apart from the bottom cover. Start from one spot and systematically work your way around until the whole palm rest is detached.

    • Disconnect the two cables that run from the keyboard to the motherboard and from the touch pad to the motherboard.

    • You may have to use a spudger to lift open the respective latches.

    • Remove both Phillips #1 4.5 mm screws from the daughterboard.

    • Gently remove the thin band from the daughterboard. You may have to use a thin blade or spudger to lift the silver clip to release the band.

    • Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove three 4 mm Phillips #1 screws from the metal bracket.

    • Once all the screws are removed the metal bracket can be disconnected from the motherboard.

    • Remove the metal bracket.
