2020 Yamaha R3 Oil and Oil Filter Replacement

In this guide, I will walk you through how to change your oil and replace your oil filter on a 2020 Yamaha R3. First gathering your tools, oil, oil filter, and don’t forget to grab your gloves it may get messy! Give yourself enough room to work on your bike.

Place an oil pan underneath your bike.
A motorcycle stand can help but is not required.
Caution: Hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in minor or moderate injury. If you have been running the bike, your engine and the oil will be VERY hot. Please give the bike an hour to cool down before working on it.

Remove the bolt underneath the bike with a wrench and 12 mm socket.
Make sure your oil pan is placed under the bike. Once the bolt is off, oil will start pouring out.
Let the bike sit and drain all of the oil.
Once the bike is completely drained, reinstall the bolt and tighten with your wrench.

Twist the oil filter counterclockwise to remove it.
There will be oil in the filter so use caution when removing it.
Dump the oil into the oil pan.
Let the bike sit for a few minutes to let all the oil drain from the bike.
Reinstall your new oil filter by turning it clockwise by hand.

Remove the oil cap from the side of the bike.
Place a funnel into the oil tank.
Slowly pour between 2.2-2.5 US quarts of oil into the tank.
Reinsert the oil cap.

Hold your bike up straight to view the oil lines on the side of the bike.
There are two lines: the bottom line indicates low oil and the top line indicates full oil.
Let the bike run for a few minutes to allow oil to flow through bike. After this, you may need to add more oil.
A bike with no oil is just as bad as a bike with too much oil. Make sure the oil is to the top of the second line and no higher.
