Dropped my iPhone into water, everything works fine bar the LCD, the touchscreen works, it rings, vibrates, unlocks, detects SIM, plays music but i cannot see anything on the display no light its completely black.
I have already tried a replacement screen which didn't work, im now working through the iPhone 4 schematic but wondered if anyone could help me narrow my search down to what could fix the problem?.

Check the backlight IC and the coil next to it.

Thanks, will take it apart again and inspect both area's, i have noticed everything looks really clean but there's a nasty mark right next to the connector below the gold pin at the very top in the picture.

lets try draining the water from the iphone first so try putting the iphone into a sealed bag of rice (yes rice as in uncooked food) and in a couple days the rice will absorb all the moisture inside the bag hence the iphone will be completely dry. then try again if there is a display.
this should be tried before taking the phone apart. but it would be good to seperate the screen from the device so it can dry more efficiently

@david jones (iphone repair man), you are absolutely right. I even go a step further and say disassemble your phone to properly clean it. ifixit has a great guide for that. Rice will not remove the moisture that collects under the EMI shields and all the small crevices around the components.. It will also not prevent future corrosion, and it can be a PITA to remove swollen Rice grains out of the head phone jack and the dock connector. Anyhow, all this aside, Andrew Swann had to obviously already opened the phone "I have already tried a replacement screen which didn't work," can't replace the screen without opening it......
Dried it out completely already, but thanks for the help.
Removed the protective cover, both chips do look ok but what would be the best way to test them?, i have an electrical tester but i've never really had to use it.
It also looks quite difficult to replace them.

Make sure your iphone motherboard is really clean also you lcd connector should not have any corrosion. Sometimes you have to run the cleaning proccess more than once before you get it to work. Keep trying if after 5 or 7 times you still do not get a picture then its for sure your backlight ic or the backlight coil. You can send me your logic board for a free diagnostic if its the ic or the backlight coil.
