Keyboard failing to function correctly

Hey everyone. Keyboard has started failing on my macbook pro. Few of the keys are not working correctly at all. For example, volume down key is making the volume go up, and volume up key isn't working at all. Backslash key adds an equal sign and CMD keys are active when pressing zero (know this from the keyboard viewer). Altogether pretty crazy.

I know iFixit says i will need to get a new upper case' but rather than get a new one can i get a second hand one and swap the keyboard from it?

You can try with external keyboard if the kays are properly working in externally then you have to change the Top case or just the keyboard. Topcase is easy to replace . find the Topcase on ebay if you donot want to pay on New one. there will find the old used one . thnx

External keyboard works perfectly. Only way I can use the laptop right now.

So can I take just the keyboard out of a top/upper case? For example, If I bought a cheaper used one that was a little worse for wear but had a fully functional keyboard, I'd rather just replace the keyboard part and use my current aluminium top/upper case because it's in good condition.

Its your choice what to change , if you have enough money to replace the whole top case then its very easy to do , otherwise have to find the cheaper working keyboard only. but you have to unscrew approx 20-30 screws of only keyboard from the topcase. if you want to change the keyboard only then i m with you just purchase that , i will help you for this to make it working .

Hi SIMRAN, thank you for your advice. I have since tried to replace the keyboard but run into some trouble regarding its fit (appears to be a different model). For the sake of clarity I have posted another topic, and I would greatly appreciate if you could take a look. Thanks a million.
