Questions about iPod Touch 4 disassembly

Hi! I have fixed iPhone 4 and am very comfortable working with them, but recently I have tried fixing damaged iPod touches, specifically ones with damaged screens.

These forth gen iPods have very annoying soldered flex cables for the volume and power.

Does anyone have any tips for me to avoid ripping the speaker out when removing the shield with a lot of screws? And avoid ripping that flex cable when installing the digitizer ribbon?

I have used patience and care, but they always seem to rip and become even more headaches for me!

Any tips would be appreciated thanks ;)

Hi

I Have done this a few times at it is a huge pain. I have broken a flex cable before. TO do this I usually put the casing of the ipod in a small vise and gently lift the circuit board as far as it will go without damaging the cable, use a small piece of plastic, usually the rear end of a small ipod opening tool to hold in this position. Then I use small tweezers to line up the cable. That is just how I do it their are probably better ways

I put my fingers on the speaker side to hold it down.. Gives enough room leverage to lift the top side/right corner and do the fitting.

To keep the volume cable from ripping try holding down the motherboard BEFORE you pry the metal plate off.

To keep the speaker from ripping off try heating the plate in that area before prying the plate from speaker. I metal spudger is the best tool for this.

If your not comfortable with either save your self the trouble and get a pro to do it for you.
