Key won't work after replacement - rubber nub problem?

I had to replace the dash key on my MBP but now it won't work anymore. I know I moved the rubber nub around a bit but it's still in place. but I read that the rubber nub is essential to the key working so I think it might be that. Is there anything I can do to fix it?

Please expand upon "won't work"- won't strike or won't pop back up?

It won't strike. The key itself pops up but nothing appears on screen

A key re-mapper app. could move this stroke to a lesser used key. You might also use the keyboard viewer as a work around. The placement of the nipple is essential as that's what compresses the "switch" on the keyboard.

ok thanks. so there's no physical way I can fix that? Sometimes the key always "gets hit" and there's a whole series of dashes that appear. So it's kind of working

You could try siliconing the nipple in the place it belongs... let it dry 24hrs before replacing the key.

Ok I'll try that. What can I do about keys not popping back up? Any tips there?

The "nipple" is the spring. If the key hangs and the nipple is there/good look at the scissors to see if they are unlinked (pop together to make an X hinge) or if one of them is broken/missing or not snapped into the key-plate.
