My JVC TV (Model SI50UR) has sound but no picture; it only displays vertical lines. I already tried the DIY trick of placing tape on the flex cable pins, but that only changed the pattern of the lines. Also, when masking certain areas, the lines react to the remote control inputs.

@jvm6752 correct. Taping off data lines is not what you need to do to this TV. This looks like either a bad T-con board (if your model has one) or a bad main board. We would have to see the back of your TV with the back cover removed to make that determination. Also, double check your LVDS cables. Check for tears and corrosion. Remove the cables and clean the ends gently with a pencil eraser. That can remove and corrosion etc. from the connector. Once cleaned, reinstall and re-evaluate.
