The 3DS will power on when plugged in, but will shut off after power is removed. I tried replacing the battery with a new one from Amazon (this) that had good reviews, and there was no change.
The charge port IS damaged, but since it turns on (and stays on) while plugged in, I highly doubt that's the problem

Hi!
Sounds like motherboard related. I know that the DS Lites had the EM10 filter. If that one is damaged, it also wouldn’t charge anymore.
You can try to return the battery and try a new one, but most likely this is not it.
I would also check the fuses on the motherboard, just to check if they are fine.

If they are fine, I would replace the motherboard. Saves you a lot of headache. Otherwise, replace them! Soldering is required for this.
