Annoying linear dead pixel lines, 0 damage? Already tried LG troublesh

Hi all,

Can you help me attempt to save this stupidly expensive monitor? Bought in 2020 so LG won’t warranty. Repair shops charge as much as buying new. We’re heartbroken over here (and can’t afford to replace).

Already tried the following (see photos, phone won’t let me copy text):

@jennamann we need to see more of this line. Post a couple of well focused images that actually show what‘s going on with your monitor.

@oldturkey03

The only lines I could see were 3 vertical lines shown in the 3rd image posted.

Two were close to each other and pass through and between the U & I letters in the word INQUIRY and the other through the very right edge of the UPLOAD icon in the image.

I can't see any lines in the first two images posted.

COF (Tab) connection fault?

さんによる

@jayeff yup. Either bad COF or bad connection of the COF.

さんによる

@jayeff yup! That’s what I’m referring to! The other photos were of the steps LG advised that we tried. Added some more with the PC off and just the monitor on.

さんによる

@jayeff added more photos! The first two were just the steps LG told us to try. I am also worried it’s a “tab” issue and hoping it’s still somehow addressable.

Hi @jennamann

Given that the lines have colour and aren't black it seems more of a driver board problem than a COF connection to the LCD screen problem i.e. gate driver on the board stuck in On mode, but I may be wrong. @oldturkey03 may be able to expand on this.

Here's a video that shows what's involved with opening the monitor and here's a better video (of a slightly different model but close enough) that gives a better view of what's inside, that may help.

The driver boards are seen in the 2nd video (along the bottom edge as viewed), and there's cables connected from them which are bonded onto the screen and are very delicate so you don't want to damage them at all as you will have more lines (black this time) on the screen.

Unfortunately I can't find a service manual or a parts list for the monitor, so you may just have to live with it as it is.

@jennamann @jayeff is correct. Once you have the back removed and identified the “ribbon cable” that corresponds to the general area where that line is, use something like a pencil with an eraser end, and gently push on the solder tabs of that ribbon. See it the line changes. If so, applying some permanent pressure can resolve this for a while. Let us know what you find out. It definitely is a TAB error.

Thank you so much. I am hoping to get to this next week when we have a buddy with a computer science degree staying with us who I'm hoping can supervise. Otherwise, this insight on what kind of error it is will help make sure we can ask any technicians in the area if they have the tools to repair prior to booking anything. I'm sending good Karma to you both, @jayeff and @oldturkkey03! I will also try and take a video that others may reference when we troubleshoot and post a link here.
