Battery Charge not showing after display repair

I recently completed a display repair on my iPad Air, and there are no issues with that. But afterwards, I noticed that the battery charge indicator is not working.
In the settings app, it constantly says charging whether plugged in or not.
It does make the charging sound when I plug in the iPad, though.
I already opened the ipad back up (where i destoryed my new display :(, but my old display just had a display brake so i was able to reintall that), to check if i had maybe not screwed the screwn in tightly but i still have the same issue now.

Since the iPad works fine running a timer all night, the battery seems fine, but when watching videos or something more intensive, it crashes.

I kind of have to find a solution for this, otherwise I don't really have a reason to get a new display, to replace the one I destroyed now.

Is it actually charging and displaying accurate charge levels?

@flannelist

Well, it's not displaying any charge level, and functions for at least 5 minutes when unplugged.The only indication that it's charging is that it makes the normal charging sound when plugging in.

So it may not be charging, but a battery seems to be connected otherwise it should shut off when not connected to power?

(and i did fully drain it before repair so the ipad would not turn back on, seems to indicate there is some charge there)

Just checked and it did not turn on, considering it charged all night, and I unplugged it 8 hours ago. It seems like it is not taking charge as normal, or does not charge and there are some massive capacitors.

This sounds like the battery connector might have sustained some damage. It's extremely common fault when doing any kind of repair on an iPad.

Block Image

Image above is of the underside of the battery connector and the thin little pins usually carry data about the battery and its charge status. One could be slightly bent, especially if you inserted something here to isolate the battery from the board during the screen replacement. See if you can tell without taking the whole board out. But ultimately you might need to.

The big fat pins in the middle of the connector are for power and ground. So thee battery may e charging totally normally, but the iPad would have no idea if one of the small pins was not connecting properly.
