Oftentimes if it won't boot past the Apple logo, and it's not an irrecoverable state such as firmware or CPU failure, then it is a bad battery. This phone is 8 years old now so batteries definitely go bad, especially if it's been often used. Is this still the original battery? Do you have the ability to replace the battery, or use an in-line ampmeter to test the power it's receiving from a wall plug?
