2015年3月にアップデートされたAppleのMacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Early 2015 はモデル番号はA1502、第5世代のIntel Core i5と i7プロセッサーが特長でForce Touchトラックパッドを備えています。

Having charging issues, won't charge past 30% then jumping to 100%

I have a MacBook Pro 13" (Early 2015) with a replacement iFixit battery. It won't charge past 30% and then will jump to 100% if the MagSafe adapter is unplugged and plugged back in.

If left to run unplugged, it will die and display the low battery screen at 70% charge.

CoconutBattery also shows the laptop at 30% and then fully charged. CoconutBattery also shows: 37 cycles with the battery status being 'good'.

I have tried:

Resetting SMC

Fully draining and recharging the battery

Any advice would be muchly appreciated!

Am I reading this right that CB is reporting the Full charge capacity to be 6764 which is larger than the design capacity of 6400 @danj?

I believe this is due to the fact that it is an iFixit replacement battery, battery tech has improved quite a bit since 2015

@superhydraulic - Yes, rechargeable battery tech has improved, sadly it’s not that simple! As the charging logic also needs to be altered with a different charging curve for the newer chemistry used. So newer systems will benefit the older systems mostly don’t.

Let’s give this a try, disconnect both the battery and the MagSafe Charger, now press and hold the power button for a good 15secs to fully discharge the logic board. Now just plug in the MagSafe charger, the system should spontaneously restart, let it fully boot up and do a clean shutdown. Now reconnect the battery and then MagSafe again what is the color of the chargers LED? Amber or Green after a minute.

I shall attempt this once my pentalobe screwdriver arrives (I left mine at University and I am home for Christmas but have ordered one, arriving Sunday)

After a minute the LED on the charger is orange and it made a boot up sound (I have the screen closed so I can work on the bottom of it

さんによる

@superhydraulic - Well the idea was to do a clean shutdown. How is it running now? Any changes.

さんによる

Having done a clean shutdown, the battery still dies at 70%. Once powered back on it won't charge above 30% (it was on charge overnight in clamshell sleep)

@superhydraulic - At this point the comparator logic is messed up. Basically, there is two taps that measure the voltage to know if the battery is fully charged. That logic is damaged somehow often I see this when a cheap MagSafe charger is used burning the resistors. So you’ll need to get a new real Apple charger so you don’t kill your system again and this will need some good soldering skills to fix. Where do you live? maybe we can aim you to someone local, what country and nearest major city.

Another thing you can try is an SMC (System Management Controller) reset. Here is the link to Apple for the procedure.

I’ve reset the SMC according to Apple’s guide a few times at this point and it appears to set the charge to 100% but it then dies at 70% anyway
