What does "Tool Error Actuator Fault" mean?

This is the first day I have used the soldering station. It mostly worked well, but one time I got: "Tool Error: Actuator Fault"

画像

What does this mean, and how can I prevent it from happening in the future?

The battery was fully charged when I started, and was about 75% when I finished for the day.

Also, probably related, several times when I turned the power station on with the soldering iron connected, I got this screen:

What can I do about this? It went away when I power cycled.

So, I'm getting a similar issue to this. Right now, as soon as I turn on the soldering iron to actually start heating up I get the actuator fault and that's it. No change in temp and no disconnected usbc icon. I've tried to make sure the tip was fully inserted inside the pen, but I've had no luck.

Hello Steven,

A loose / not fully seated tip is the most likely source of the problem.

Actuator Fault is meant to be a general warning message. In the case of the soldering iron, this means there is an error with the heating element. The heating element on the iron is in the tip.

The iron is trying to heat up but the temperature sensor is unable to read that the tip is heating up. This will cause the actuator fault. The fault is a safety feature to prevent run away heating.

You can try power cycling the iron by removing the power cord and reseating the tip. If the error continues please reach out to our Customer Support team (support@ifixit.com) and they will be able to help.

Hi Steven,

To answer your second question. I believe what happened is that when the station powered on there was a bug that prevented the communication protocol between the station and the soldering iron from completing correctly. In this instance the station does not recognize that the soldering iron was plugged into the port. I would try unplugging the soldering iron and plugging it back into the same port. If that station port continues to not recognize the soldering iron you can try using the other port to complete any job you're actively working on before contacting our Customer Support team (support@ifixit.com). They will be able to help swapping out the station. If the port has communication issues intermittently I would still swap it out so we can diagnose the problem on our end.
