After replacing the LCD, Apple Logo is not fully shining

Hey guys,

I have changed the LCD of my Macbook and now I am having a working display. Before that I had no backlight. But when looking on the apple logo I recognized that the logo is not fully shining. There is a round shadow that is not lit up.

Is the display damaged or did I do something wrong during the replacement?

Thanks for your help!

It was an adhesive! I removed it and now the apple is fully shining :)

First and foremost: could you give us the last four letters and numbers of your serial number, the one you can read in System Profiler? Would be useful to check exactly what is your machine.

Returning to your problem: is yours a third part display? Have you removed all the padding when you took out of the box?

Tell us if it's a third party part, because, if that's the case, and if the display is just working fine, it may just mean that the display has a more opaque reflective layer on its back, being meant for use on other machine (for example, when I searched for a new LCD for mine, I was made aware that also some ACER with 13'' display use the same LG, just with no mounts for the iSight, that here has to be taped and affixed to the LCD mount itself).

So, I would check if there's adhesive on the back of your display. If there isn't, I wouldn't bother, I'd buy an iColour adhesive for the Apple, using a red or blue hue to "enhance" the faint light it may go through or the ambiental light and call it even.

Only if you believe it's a cause for giving back the monitor, you may check one meant as an Apple part, with the proper "see through" reflective layer.

Thank you for your detailed explanation!

The serial number of the system is: 90P0

Yes it is a third part display, I bought it on ebay.

LG Philips

Apple part : 661-3959 , 661-4211

13.3" WXGA 1280 x 800

SUPER HIGHBRIGHT (GLOSSY)

I'll check if there is any adhesive left on the backside of the display. Actually it is the Macbook of my girlfriend and she is quite satisfied with the result of the replacement. It does not bother her to have not a fully shining apple.

Well, the machine is correct, and the monitor too. I too got a replacement display for eBay. Then I had to change it because it had some other issues, like the lack of holes for mounting the iSight bezel and a short inverter cable.

So, check the adhesive, you can also use the "fast inverter replacement guide", here MacBook Core 2 Duo LCD & Inverter A1181 (fast method) Replacement , up to Step 5 if you don't want to go through the hassle of dismantling the whole laptop.

Also, you can find a videoguide here:

If there's no take and adhesive, no big deal. You can find a nice adhesive on the same site of the video guide, slap it on the apple and call it even.

Your girlfriend can always tell people she got her unit customized, afterall.

You definitely saved me a lot of time by giving me these advices! Thanks a lot :)

I'm glad it was just an adhesive, and I'm happy for you both. By the way, you're welcome :)
