How do I replace the cable that goes to the earpiece?

A few days ago I noticed that the earpiece on my phone quit working. After getting some tools from here, I dug into it and here is what I found.

I have had this phone for just over a year and it looks like that small 2 conductor ribbon cable was not quite seated properly behind that thicker one and it was rubbing against something right where it curved around. Over time, it looks like it has torn into the wire. (I am guessing that these wires provide the audio to the earpiece.)

Is this part replaceable? If so, which part is that? If not, is there anything I can do to fix it? I have considered trying to solder it, but that is a ridiculously small wire and it would most likely make things worse!

Thoughts?

UPDATE: after reassembling the phone (with one tiny screw remaining - not sure where it was supposed to go), the earpiece works! That cable must be pressed in a way that lets it make contact. I'm guessing it will probably fail again at some point, so the question still stands.

Just to clarify which wire is doing what:

- The wire you are talking about is the wire of your LCD which is providing power to the backlight of the LCD. It has nothing to do with your ear speaker.

- The ear speaker of the iPhone 4 very often makes bad contact with the logic board. This is probably causing the problem you've experienced. To solve it permanently just bend the 2 pins on the ear speaker up a bit so they make good contact. This will solve your problem.

Interesting. I will open it up once more to make sure the cable is in a position where it will be protected so it doesn't tear any more. Thanks for the reply.
