hi, I've done the command s and I end up at the same log in screen. I did the C and again straight to the log in screen. I am unable to enter the system so I can change the admin login and password. Please help!!!

You boys sure seem to like doing it the hard way. If you get tired of this, insert your system installation disk > restart holding down the "C" key > go to the second screen pull down menu > Utilities > Change password.

Siram, thank u for the breakdown, I did the hard way first and by me pressing the " 1. turn off the laptop. 2. hold the alt button 3. press the power button(once only to powering up) while holding the alt button. " I got a gray screen with a lock, don't have that password. also , did the simple way and nothing, I do not get the "command Prompt screen" any other suggestions?
Mayer, I"ve done that numerous times and it doesn't work, it sounds like it wants to take off but it doesn't. the gray screen with the spinning wheels appears, blue screen, then 2 seconds jumps str8 into the login screen.
Any other suggestions as well? They will be done and especially appreciated!
Looks like you've locked it up somehow. You get one free restart by changing the RAM configuration. First, change it by removing one chip and restart and zap the PRAM by booting holding down the P, R. Command & Option keys, wait for ti to tone three times. Next put the chip back in and boot from the installation disk, "C" key. Then do as I mentioned above to reset the password.
how do i change the chip, do i following the instructions as if i was going to install PRAM battery directions?
i meant how to i remove the chip, not change
First I need to know exactly which machine you have, please give the last three figures of your serial number and I'll get you to the correct guide.

hold the alt button the start up your mac. then press the command+s both together the move the curser on the drive then click on that . make sure that do not remove fingers from both button . after 2-3 seconds you will get the that screen then you can types the commands to reset the password.

if you have a reinstall dvd . you can do with that also. put the dvd inside then boot from it. after coming to desktop there is a option upside of utilities . iside that you will see the password option there you can reset it by choosing the user on that mac. thnx
I'm sorry for I'm learning as I go. this is what I did following your instructions.
Power is off, power on holding the alt button at the same time.
once the power is on do I remove my finger from power button. keep the alt button and begin to hold down the command +s button.
(question, do I hold down the + button as well ?)
the grey screen with the apple logo, and spinning wheel appears, then he blue screen, then the mac os screen is going but it doesn't complete the line all away across, it jumps into the login and password screen.
am I holding down the correct buttons?

ok, i installed the dvd, and I held down the command s buttons, before login menu under MAC OS X had a name, now it shows version 10.4.1 going dow the right path?
Do one thing first read this properly by steps:
1. turn off the laptop.
2. hold the alt button
3. press the power button(once only to powering up) while holding the alt button.
4. you will see the curser on the screen and the hard drive over there.
5. release the alt button.
6. press and hold the command and S.
7. while holding both buttons move the curser to hard drive or click that by mouse.
8. after 3-4 seconds system will show you the black screen with command prompt. there you can use the commands to reset the login account.
or you can by this also simple way:
1. turn off the laptop.
2. press and hold the command and S .
3. after holding just press the power button only but keep holding that both button.
4 you will see the command prompt.
