iMac 20 late 2006 power on failure

Hi everyone,

I have a question about iMac intel 20 late 2006.

The cap on logic board can make a power on failure?

The display remains black , no sounds, all led on, three diagnostic LEDs and front LED, fan running...

I replace ram, reset the SMC and replace Power Supply from from an other imac , disconnect all device: hd, airport and bluetooth card, Optical Drive, nothing.

I tested Inverter Assembly and LCD...Nothing.

The logical boadr seems to be out of order.

Observing logic boadr I have found some caps, can make a power on failure like imac G5?

Thanks to all.

P.S.

sorry for my bad english :(

Although not nearly as common as the bad caps in the iMac G5s, I've found bad caps in some of the early Intel iMacs. If you find that any of your caps are swollen and/or corroded, your logic board may fail. See if your logic board is the Apple part # 820-1766-A. If so follow this link to get the correct caps: http://jimwarholic.com/2010/02/isight-g5...

Thanks mayer, but my imac is INTEL late 2006... I hope that the caps are broken otherwise I cannot repair it.

The problem could be grafic card...

or any other...

I’ve run into a similar problem after a breaker got tripped in my house. I replaced the power supply and conducted the LED test. (NOTE: on my model there are 3 LEDs just to the right of the RAM slots on the logic board.) Everything seems to check out according to the LED indicators however the system will start up, chime and everything, run for maybe 15-20 seconds and then shut off. I’ve done both the SMC and PMU resets but still have the same issue.

Any help on narrowing down what the issue is would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like your HDD failed. I would disconnect the internal drive and plug in a FireWire drive (this series won't boot off of USB)

The other option is to use a second Mac as the boot drive setting it up in Target Disk Mode connecting the two systems via FireWire

Given the age of this system I would strongly recommend replacing the PRAM battery as well iMac Intel 20" EMC 2105 and 2118 PRAM Battery Replacement
