Screen is intact, but doesn't respond to touch - what to replace?

The touch feature on my iPad isn't working, but the screen is completely intact. What would need to be replaced to make it work again? Thx!

Hi Eric,

There are several points of failure where the digitizer can break down with no visible damage to the screen itself, and that sounds like what has happened to you.

Your particular iPad has the front glass / digitizer / LED display all fused into a single piece, so even though your glass and LEDs are all intact and working, it's not feasible for us average joes to physically separate them then refuse them back into a single unit. In short, you're going to have to replace the whole screen to get the digitizer (touch screen) working again.

It might be worth your while to check the connectors, but frankly I've never seen an Apple product fail because of a loose connector - they're just too well screwed down to be able to work themselves loose.

Anyway, here's the iFixit guide giving you step by step directions on how to do the job.

You can find replacement parts on all the major sites like Amazon, eBay and AliExpress and a host of others as well. They're still a bit pricey, but if you can wait a bit to ship from China you can get a fairly good price from AliExpress.

This, of course, assumes you've exhausted the software solutions like doing a backup then restoring the iPad to factory settings to see if that changes anything.
