Could you give a link to that educated answer?

What he was saying was that if there was a heatsink already attached to the new board there is no need to pull it off to put your heatsink on. If your new board has no heatsink attached to it already and you are going to use your heatsink for the new board you will need thermal paste.

Whenever you replace the processor or heatsink new thermal compound/paste is required. I recommend Arctic Silver 5. The thermal compound needs to be spread evenly and a very thin layer. Too much can increase temperatures and cause problems.

Do I require an EXACT match to replace my logic board?

AB Cellers is right. You need Arctic Silver 5 and can buy it at Radio Shack if you need it fast. You can order it on e-bay if your cheap and need to save some cash. Cut a piece of plastic off of the package or use one of those fake American Express Credit cards their always sending to your house and use it as a spreader. Wear some gloves if you don't like that gray stuff from the tube getting on your hands.
