swapping 64ssd for 1tb nvme ssd

i just got steam deck and first thing i did was change ssd from 64gb to 1tb. its a WD SN740 1TB M.2 2230 SSD NVMe PCIe4x4. i took it back out and connected to pc and drive works fine. reinstalled. reloaded recovery on usb drive again. and it just sits there with steam os logo for long time with nothing.
