Why are my dowload speeds slow?

I have trouble downloading games on my desktop even though I usually average about 800-900mbs?

Hi @maikeru0,

Is this on WiFi or Ethernet?

If it's only games and not download speed in general and only occurs when downloading from one particular website, it may be at their end and not yours.

Try starting the PC in safe mode and check the download speed. WiFi doesn't work in safe mode or at least it's not that easy to make it work so try Ethernet

@jayeff I have my pc connected to the ethernet cord and the issue is with multiple applications/ websites. At the beginning the downloads start off at a good pace but starts to fall and I usually get stuck with frozen screens or even a "Not Responding" error at the top of the application window.

Try resetting the TCP/IP network stack and check if that resolves the problem

In the search box on the taskbar type command prompt, in the command prompt result select Run as administrator and confirm.

At the command prompt (don't restart the PC until you have entered the final command):

  1. Type ipconfig /release and press Enter.
  2. Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.
  3. Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter. (This will stall for a moment.)
  4. Type netsh int ip reset and press Enter. (Don’t restart yet.)
  5. Type netsh winsock reset and press Enter.

Now restart your machine using Start > Power > Restart once more and test to see if the issue is resolved.

Note: This is old world computing. the mouse doesn't work in a Command window. If you make a typing error, use the backspace key to step back and delete until you reach the error and start typing again. Yes there is a space inserted between inconfig and the / symbol but not after the / symbol

Well you can try the following:

  1. Restart Your Router and Computer. When you reboot the router, make sure you press the power button
  2. Fix Browser Issues.
  3. Get Scanning.
  4. Turn OFF Non-essential Devices.
  5. Move Closer (Wi-Fi).
  6. Updated your wifi driver if it is outdated. Because some time outdated driver can also cause the issue.
  7. Switch to cable (Wi-Fi) .
  8. Use a VPN.
