I have a 2008 Maxima 3.5 that won't crank.

I just got the car last week and they had almost no power at all, for example if I would hold the gas pedal down a quarter of the way it had more power than all the way down. When I shut it off it took a lot of effort to turn back on or I would have to get a jump start to turn it back on. I thought it would be my crankshaft positioning sensor but I just got a new one from the junkyard and it's still not working. Somebody please help me this is my only source of transportation.

If the engine runs, it's not likely to be a crank sensor problem. A blocked (disintegrating internally) catalytic converter (or several) can choke off exhaust flow as the equivalent of engine constipation. A simple test would be removing the upstream O2 sensor(s) on the exhaust manifold for an alternate exhaust path. If the engine starts up (loud) and a brief drive around the block reveals renewed power, the catcon(s) are damaged. Another issue may be a worn out fuel pump requiring testing with a fuel pressure gauge connected to a fuel rail test valve. You'll need to know fuel pressure specs with either ignition on (immediately) or with engine idling).

Hi @eric1991phx

Here's an image taken from the Starting and Charging system section of the 2008 Nissan Maxima Model A34 Service Repair Manual, that may help.

A description of the starting system is on p.SC-10
