battery adhesive and 3rd party home button issues (mostly venting tho)
i just replaced 5 iphone 8+ batteries in my family's phones. in EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM the battery adhesive pull tabs stretched about 1/2 inch then snapped which left me nothing to pull on. i had to do the 99% IPA and slow pry to get the batteries out. I've replaced dozens of batteries this past year and i have never had as much difficulty getting a battery out as i have with the 8/8+/SE2. way to go Apple.
i've also had to replace two home buttons with JC 8.1 3rd party buttons. Touch ID feature is lost - that's expected. Home button functionality works as expected. one 8+ is running IOS 15.7 and the other is IOS 16.2. both of them immediately turned on Assistive Touch. if i moved the on-screen button out of the way, it goes right back to the bottom middle within a minute. if i turn Assistive Touch off, it turns back on almost right away. the home button works, so i don't need Assistive Touch but IOS is probably reading the button as "not Apple OEM" and figures there must be something wrong and turns on Assistive Touch regardless of whether you need it or not.
it almost feels like this is Apple giving the finger to the DIY'ers and the right-to-repair movement.
Rant over, but i'm interested in hearing comments.
Cheers
