Dell 3358 won't boot-hard drive is good

I'm a little bit dissapointed, this morning I wanted to start my laptop but I got a "no boot device found" error. I set my HDD to #1 in the BIOS setup boot sequence. I went into diagnostics and the hard drive tested as good. The last time the system was used it booted fine.

Did you know what the fix was? I was trying to boot from "Internal HDD" but it turns out you had to boot from "Toshiba [model number]" in UEFI boot.

Maybe bad BIOS settings or a bug? Reset it to factory defaults and reconfigure it. See if Dell has a BIOS update available.

In some cases, it can be due to how the boot order is laid out as some of these laptops require the user to explicitly pick the hard drive, not just an "Internal HDD" group where it should in practice search for you. If that happens, reset the BIOS settings to default and see if it remains. If it does, there may be a bug with the BIOS or a quirk of the drive used in the laptop with the BIOS.

If not, is it on the original drive? A lot of these Dells have Seagate drives, which happens a lot due to their tendency to silently fail without warning. While it can sometimes be fixed by reinstalling Windows (and isn't a BIOS setting issue), it tends to be a bad hard drive in many cases. In addition to that, it's in a spot where it can be easily damaged by vibration which doesn't do anyone favors. The bad placement makes it a candidate for an SSD -- placing it by the palmrest where people slam them down first is ASKING for trouble.

Try to reinstall Windows, otherwise, the hard drive failed. This one isn't hard, and shouldn't take more than 15 minutes: Dell service manual

I installed Ubuntu Linux and now it works perfect after a new OS. I just had to change the boot mode from Legacy to UEFI and it works, even Windows still works (I now have to load into Windows from the HDD model number in the boot menu)
