Black LCD after boot screen (Replacement LCD).
I just replaced the LCD Screen on my MacBook Pro (A1151), following the ifixit guide. My issue is as follows:
The replacement screen I purchased (Samsung LTN170WP-L02 WSXGA+ (1680x1050) is supposed to be a direct OEM replacement for the original LG Screen (LP171WE2 TL A2); however, it apparently is not. Both are WSXGA+ (1680x1050) CCFL.
The apple boot screen comes up, but when OSX boots the screen goes black.
The back light works.
External Monitor works.
Is there a driver that needs to be installed or do I need to purchase the original part?

Please give a link to the place you got it from and where the replacement screen is reputed to work with your machine. Thanks

Purchased from Kedacom/ Vista PCS (San Pedro, CA) via Ebay

I have decided to bite the bullet, and chalk this up to a learning experience. I just ordered the original part LP171WE2(TL)(A2).
As I have been told by my father:
"Some people learn by being told or by reading,
some people need to be shown,
still others have to pee on the electric fence for themselves."

This is a curious problem - especially after the SMC, PRAM reset. I see the Samsung LTN170WP-L02 being sold as a replacement LCD for this MBP at a number of places. I see the LP171WE2 TL A2 being sold at a number of places for this MBP. I have not been able to acquire the data sheets for either of them yet. I've never met your father, but I like his way of thinking. I've acquired knowledge from all the sources he mentioned. If I come across the data sheets I will post what I found out here, for future knowledge.

*I believe I found the answer. The second screen sent to me (after I ordered an exact replacement) was still a Samsung replacement. I called their customer service, they are now sending an LG replacement. At issue is the EDID chip. The "compatible" screens may or may not have one, and if they do, the firmware may or may not be copied over from the original screen type.
*EDID stands for Extended Display Identification Data. It is defined by the Video Electronic Standards Association (VESA) and is used as part of an interface between a source device and a display monitor.
*When purchasing a replacement screen, make certain that the screen not only matches in dimensions, resolution, and lighting type, but also whether or not it needs the EDID chip.
