iPhone reboots after 3 minutes if I go into unlock screen

Hi,

Recently I was using my iPhone to take some pictures during a rainy day when it suddenly shut down and started to go into a boot loop. It eventually managed to boot, and long story made short, the situation is now as follows:

  • If I leave the iPhone as it is when it boots, i.e., without even going into the unlock screen (the one where you would input the unlock code), it remains on indefinitely
  • If I even go into the unlock screen, it will turn off after 3 minutes
  • After it turns off, it goes into a boot loop of variable duration, but eventually boots again

I had a lot of pictures (around 3000) without back up that I would like to save. On one of this times it booted, I confirmed that all the photos are still there. Even the camera is working fine. But since it will automatically reboot after 3 minutes, I don't get the chance to save them for example through the Photos app on my MacBook

At this point , my priority is to try to backup all the photos. Any suggestions on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated! I currently have the phone booted and without having gone into the unlock screen. It has been this way for 40 minutes now

I had a look at the Analytics data as well one of these times before it rebooted automatically, and there were panic-full messages. If I have a look at the timestamp of the panic-full messages, they indeed happen 3 minutes before it shuts off automatically every time. I managed to extract a couple of examples of the panic-full messages, in case these are useful, in ips format. These are quite large, but I can share them if required

Edit: please find here a screenshot of the 1st page of the panic-full message

Hi Rafael,

Yes, please, do post them; the panic logs are the key to determining what's going on with your phone. However, in most cases we don't need the full log; generally the first page contains the information needed to tell what's causing the kernel panic.

EDIT:

Excellent! Here's the line that tells us what's wrong:

Missing sensor(s): mic2

According to Alisha's invaluable Wiki article, here's what it means.

Mic2 is in the power button flex in most models.

That's telling us that the flex cable that contains the power button, flash and rear microphone is the culprit; it's lost communication with the microphone and throwing a hissy fit as a result. Here's the part you need.

It took a bit of looking, but I finally found a tutorial that shows how to replace that assembly.

Manuales / Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max / Flex with power button, flash and microphone

It's a Spanish website, but they provide an English translation so you'll have to puzzle out some of the terms, but they're generally pretty self-explanatory.

That should be everything you need; let us know how it goes!

Even a screenshot of the first page of info in the panic will help, but you can also check out the iPhone Kernel Panic page to do some troubleshooting on your own.

The three minute restart sort of panic is super typical and usually means one of three parts is bad: the charge port flex cable, the power button flex cable, or the battery. But seeing the actual panic can help get you some extra info.
