@oldturkey03 Changed it to the 2017 15"; this isn't a 2013. It's got the speaker grille profile of the 15".

The 2012-15 has the nameplate free LCD, this has a nameplate.

The revision hurts me a little, but I'm not going to sugarcoat it :(. I have yet to find a way to make lipstick and eyeshadow look good on the pig that is those early Butterfly MBs. BTW I tried the 16" M1... The P3 display in XDR P3 mode makes the LG displays used in the "old Retina" look BAD in comparison color wise. I can't see calibration even with a Spyder helping make the humiliating gap disappear.

@nick - I’m not sure if this is correct, the 13” is very similar and I can’t see enough of the grills to really tell which this system is.

Mark, can you please go into About This Mac and tell us what you have.

@danj I see a large keyboard spacing which is why I think it’s a 15”. I’m just taking a educated guess myself as well.

The problem with these rMBPs is if the display gets trashed like this one, it tends to cost as much as a nice example from the same year in many cases, give or take. Newer ones tend to be uglier; displays somehow remain expensive for machines that depreciate faster than anyone who bought them new will admit. Sometimes you can get donor machines with a good LCD, but a lot of Retina "donors" need the LCD for this reason :/. Retina LCD repairs? This sells Applecare alone even for DIYers. The holdouts avoided a nightmare, but the people who bought them took the hit because they're hard to sell now because nobody wants these MacBooks.
If this is from 2016-17 (2018/19 are BETTER, but not fully immune), I'm just going to come out and say it: SKIP THE $$$ LCD AND RUN, SELL IT FOR PARTS! It's a matter of when (not IF) the keyboard turns into an expensive repair, and when it goes vintage (and Apple no longer does the free repair/has parts), fugetabout it; it's a donor; sell it and get someone to pay a very ridiculous price for junk while you can. If you're adamant about keeping up to date get a current M series MBP (13" for portability, 14/16"* for heavy use, both with at least 32GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD space). If you go used, push for a 40-50% discount.

*Please, please try the 16" in person! As someone who loved the 17" (and ran one until the bitter end, and pressed the matter until the M series 16" came out). They are monsters (5lb) and are not travel friendly. The 17" Unibody was 6.5lbs, we're only shedding 1.5lbs losing 1.5" of screen. Same monster of a laptop in terms of weight.

I'm not going to say you shouldn't at least try to find a new LCD, but don't get so invested in this you will not give up and pay more for a display than you would for a 2018-19 replacement system with 32GB (16GB for the 13")/1TB (SSD is soldered).

Ideally, try for an M1 used, or a current-gen M system new; Intel is on borrowed time. That said, I wouldn't pass up a deal; if you can score something like a 15" DG 2015 cheap, take it. You will not catch me with a 2016-19 since they're unusable without several dongles, and display issues the 2015 is not affected by. But at least get it with a 512GB SSD*.
*You technically CAN upgrade this on the 2015, but get at least 512GB if money permits. Apple's SSDs aren't cheap, so get one which will last.
