The Samsung Galaxy A53 5G Is a Mid-Tier phone released by Samsung on March 17, 2021

I broke my Samsung Galaxy A53 5G display and need to replace it

I guess my phone is so cutting edge that even ifixit hasn't sorted replacing the screen yet. Ugh. I put it in a precarious place and it fell to its doom, despite shock-proof cover and screen protector. Any help?

Oh dear. Daddy broke it. Not the first time I have heard THAT.

Well HOT DOG. I appreciate the guidance, Jerry. I'll probably give this a try. I have ever done it before.

Thanks again,

Mark

Hi Mark,

Any help? Of course - that's what this site is all about!

Okay, just because we don't have a guide for you here on iFixit, doesn't mean there isn't one around. I found what looks like an excellent one over on a site called idoc.eu with just what you're looking for.

Samsung Galaxy A53 5G screen replacement - repair guide

You seem to be in luck as far as cost goes too. Most of the replacement screens I came across were under $100 USD, which seems good for an OLED display, especially when ones like yours are part of the phone's frame that everything else mounts on. Here's just one example that seems to carry a wide variety of colors so you can hopefully get one that matches your current phone. Or I suppose if you wanted to change things up, you could just pick one you like instead!

Good luck with your repair, and let us know how it goes!

EDIT: Just a few tips I've picked up along the way in doing these sort or repairs:

Have all the tools and parts you'll need on hand before you start. Of course, you're free to buy your tools wherever you want, but iFixit has a couple of things that would come in handy for this job.

iOpener Toolkit - iFixit Store
iSesamo Opening Tool - iFixit Store

The iOpener is handy and I do own one myself, but prior to getting it I got by fine with just using a hair dryer. After going through the guide, I'm pretty sure that buying the two items I listed will give you all the tools you need to do the job. Of course you can get fancy and buy the iSclack suction cup tool if you want; just depends on how much you want to spend on this.

Besides the tools, you'll need some parts as well. Obviously the screen; I'll leave that up to you since you know what color you want and can shop around for price.

Since you'll have it out anyway, it might be worth considering whether you want to pop a new battery in. They're usually not too expensive and you'll extend the useful life of your phone even if your existing one is still working okay. Of course, if you should end up deforming the battery in the process of removing it, you would definitely want to replace it.

Adhesives; you'll need double-sided adhesives to glue the battery when you're putting it all back together. Generally the adhesive goes on the battery first rather than the phone. If you buy a battery, check to see if it comes with adhesive; that'll save you an order if it does.

Pro tip: When setting the battery back in place, connect it up temporarily to ensure that the place it sits in will correctly reach the connector. Be sure to unplug it immediately after setting it in place.

Pre-cut adhesive is the way to go to resecure the back cover. I'd suggest buying at least a couple; it's really easy to mess those up especially if you're new to this and you don't want to spend a couple of days pounding your head on the desk as you wait for your reorder to come in (like I did, lol). You don't need 10 of them, but here's an example of what you're looking for.

10pcs Original Rear Back Battery Cover Door Adhesive Sticker Glue Tape For Samsung Galaxy A53 5G A536B 2022

Be sure to clean off all the old adhesive off the rear cover. Use isopropyl alcohol at a concentration of 90% or higher; not that 70% stuff we all have around the house.

Don't touch the camera lenses or any glass they look through. Work slowly and methodically. Stop and ask questions here if you run into anything you don't understand or need clarification on.

@felipeleal63638 @jaysonmengel Thank you so much for the kind words. I remember what it was like when I started out with cell phone repairs and try to pass along the things I wish I had known then.
