no video on startup is my MacBook dead?

I had a spill incident, and I replaced my motherboard. Now the video won't start up, and I found that one of the pins on the lvds cable was broken.

I need to know if replacing the cable will fix the problem or if its going to be a different solution. I heard of starting a macbook with another macbook in target mode, and i was wondering if i could leave my lvds cable unplugged to do this.

Any other troubleshooting tips would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

By video I assume you mean the display. Connecting an external monitor is a quick and easy test if you have one available.

There's no way to tell if this will solve your problem but hooking your machine up to an external monitor would give you a very good indication and help isolate your problem to the display.

Yes the display is not working. Can I hook it up to an external monitor without connecting the lvds cable? Will that make a difference.

David, you can hook it up to an external monitor and run the laptop without the LVDS cable. The only difference it will make is the LCD on the laptop will not be hooked up. It is safe to run without the LVDS cable.
