As above, ever since then I've been using an external mouse. I'm about to upgrade my HD and wondered if I would be able to fix the trackpad problem, but don't know what to anticipate, and am nervous as it is. Advice?

Its my understanding the trackpad is fixed to the upper case and would not be a replaceable item. Due to the cost of the upper case I would continue to use the external mouse. You could try to clean the trackpad while you have the upper case off to replace the hard drive.. I don't know if that would help you though. Ralph
