Glitchy keys on digital piano - Yamaha Clavinova CLP-880

Hello. I have a Yamaha Clavinova which is exhibiting some glitchy behavior. At first, random notes would sustain forever (though the key would physically lift back up), or sound at max volume, or make other notes sound. I took it apart and cleaned everything as best as I could to no avail.

I've now been able to identify certain consistent issues. For example, if I hold an F, and press the adjacent G, the piano will also sound a B and Db. The important part is that this happens in all octaves. I am thus led to believe that it is not a hardware/mechanical issue and that the problem is in the motherboard.

Is there anything that can be done, or is it fried? Would I at least be able to keep the key contact circuit board and use it for a separate MIDI project?

Thanks!

Hi

Iv seen some Roland’s and M-controllers do this and it’s usually one of 2 things

1)as you said a fried or damaged main board but seeing this is extremely rare so it’s probably best to leave that as a last resort

2)it can be corrosion on the contacts for the keys,I am aware that you have cleaned them but if they are corroded in any was it can make them act strange(just as the issue you are having) so you can get a pencil if they are carbon contacts(black ones)and draw some extra carbon dust onto them ,if they are gold you can clean them with isopropyl alcohol or replace the Key-bed board

If you are still having issues after trying this let me know in the comments of this answer and we can single out your issue together and hopefully fix your issue:-)

Hopefully this helps

Thanks:-)
