battery discharge differential in iPhone 7

i have two iphone 7's. same model and memory capacity. i noticed one was draining it's battery faster than the other, so i ran some comparisons.
i made sure each phone was running one app and the background settings are the same. i know i should have probably timed them but didn't because i didn't have time to really monitor them. what i can say is that when the first phone hits the 20% warning, the other phone was always between 40% and 45%.
the only differences that i can point to are.....

1) the 20% phone is running IOS 15.2, the 40%+ phone is running IOS 14.8.1.

2) both batteries are original and are close to 85% health

3) the 20% phone battery has 774 charge cycles, the 40%+ phone has 380 charge cycles

so my questions are, can 15.2 or a higher charge cycle count be responsible for a faster battery discharge? or is there some place else where should be looking?

@beekerc there are many variable that can cause this. Yes, the charge cycles will make a difference as well as the iOS version. I would suggest that if you are not satisfied with the battery life on phone number 1, change the battery. Testing battery life against the other phone is just a pretty rough estimate. If you do want to test the batteries, run a test like I did on here. It tests the battery with the same load etc. Evaluating High Capacity Batteries (Part II)

agreed, there can be multiple factors. these three just seemed to be the most impactful, so i figured i'd start there. :)

based on the performance, it's probably due for a battery change, but if it were IOS, then a new battery shouldn't matter and change performance that much. if it is battery life or charge count, then a new battery could solve a lot. Generally speaking i don't swap out batteries until i hit the 70% mark or when it can't hold a charge worth crap.

unfortunately i don't have the gear you for testing, but i definitely understand the methodology. thanks for the input and insight.

@beekerc the iOS can account for the differences in between the battery of different phones since it can/may regulate power consumption etc. You are right, in the same phone with the same iOS there will be no difference between old and new battery.
