iPhone 6 Plus - pulls charge, but no boot

I have an iPhone 6 plus with water damage, it pulls .5A (it drops to .01 every few seconds then back up) but doesn't boot. I cleaned the board and checked for shorts and found nothing. I'm fairly new to board level repairs, so I'm mainly looking for what steps I should take from this point to narrow down the fault

If you are new to board repair the first rule is to rule out a parts issue.

@imicrosoldering The first thing I did was removed board and used new battery, new screen, and new charging port. It's definitely a board issue, just not sure the next steps to take when there's no short. I hooked up battery and tested voltage throughout the board, got 3.7 throughout the main power rail, where should I look next? I also replaced tristar which didn't resolve anything, which I expected since it already pulls a charge. Also plugged into pc to see if it was booting to dfu, but that was a no go as well

@shadowsuave Have you tried an update with iTunes?

さんによる

@imicrosoldering it's not detected by iTunes

@shadowsuave You will need to put the phone into recovery mode or if data is not important DFU mode.

First thing I would do is check for any components that look out of sorts. Where did the liquid go? Does anything LOOK damaged. With any sort of known damage, your eyes are going to be your best clues. Even if you can't see anything amiss, the areas where the liquid went are probably where you're going to find fault. Even with a good ultrasonic cleaner, corrosion under chips isn't necessarily going to get cleaned up.

I don't think Tigris, or elements of the charging mechanism are a bad idea, assuming there was corrosion there.

hello Lenny,

a similar pulsating behaviorism is a symptom of a faulty main charger and its switching transistor. If you plan to fix it yourself, these two ics should be replaced. It looks like a reverse polarity connected current to me, as if someone made a mistake when trying to repair. It happens sometimes. If you prefer to have such a repair done, find a good repair shop, remove the motherboard and bring it back. Order replacement of the TI SN2400B0, DRV2604YZF and CSD68815W15 transistor. The components cost half a dollar each and soldering these little ones shouldn't be too expensive either. However, this does not exclude other post-flooding problems that will also need to be resolved.

Okay, so it sounds like my head was in the right place cause I ordered 2 out of 3 of those components yesterday. I got Tigris and the charging mosfet and will be replacing both of those today, if that doesn't work I will order the other component and try that as well. And I'm not too worried about resolving other issues as this is data recovery only, thank you for the reply!
