More information is need to help you.

What is the model number of the TV?

Have you tried different signal sources e.g. dvd player, different input types e.g. HDMI, RF, Component video + audio, to see if there is audio.

If the TV has an earphone socket, have you tried plugging in earphones to check for sound?

@jayeff I have tried different signals and I just put a speaker on it. I'll get the model when I get home.

Has it worked OK before?

Have you checked for audio from the headphone socket to see if it is there at all, you didn't say? If something is plugged into it (or it acts like something is) this can cut off the audio going to either the internal or external speakers.

Try a factory reset and see if that works. The user manual calls it "Reset all settings" and it is a sub menu of the System Information setting.

If still no good it's looking like a mainboard problem as this is where the audio IC is located

It's the mainboard, It's making a loud buzzing noise now, it's probably time to get a new one.
