How do I un-screw this special screw? I've kind of destroyed it...

So, I'm trying to change my laptop's thermal paste. All went fine, until I got to the part where I have to remove the heat sink and here's where the problem started. The screws were very VERY hard to un-screw. I tried different screwdrivers, and although some were better than others, I still didn't manage to un-screw them all. So, after I had un-done two of them, I came to screw 4 and pretty much wrecked the head. Is there a way to fix this somehow? I tried rubber bands, pliars, and pretty much anything I have at hand.

Your only option would be to very carefully drill it out.

He can use a flathead, cant he?

@nytryder26 A flat-head may strip it more. As is shown in the pictures, there is very little to grab onto.

Hi @justatechnewbie

Did you try using suitably sized set of bull nose pliers (image only to show what they look like)?

Try not to twist the head off the screw. If it doesn't turn anti-clockwise to unscrew, turn it clockwise 1/4 turn and then go back the other way. You may have to do this several times, getting it out further every time.

If the head does come off at least you should be able to lift the heat sink off the board. Then use the pliers again to remove the remaining shaft of the screw that is still there
Also try not to put too much downward pressure on the mother board.

What is the model number of the laptop?
