Microwave won't stop running and door won't open! Help!

I have a GE MODEL JES1109RRSS that I purchased several (3 maybe 4) months ago. Just this morning when I put something in to heat up the microwave started spinning to as per usual, but there was no countdown, just the clock showing. I tried to hit cancel and then pressed the button to open the door, but neither worked. So, I unplugged the microwave and used a tip from a video to lift the latch with a piece of cardstock and get my food out. When I plugged the microwave back in it just started up spinning again as if there was something inside and the clock showed back up as well, but once again the cancel button wouldn't work and the door would not open. I have no problems closing the door either, just opening it.

Does anyone know what the issue could be? I'm trying to save having to pay out of pocket to get it fixed or trying a bunch of stuff that won't work. Thanks in advance!

Hi @siouxsie ,

It could be faulty interlock switches or actuating levers etc since you have problems opening the door, BUT since the microwave is only 3-4 months old (from new?) then make a claim for a manufacturer's warranty repair, replacement or refund.

Use the warranty to get it fixed. That's what it's there for. Also it's free. The owner manual describes what to do to make a claim. Do not attempt to open it yourself to find out what's wrong, as this will void the warranty.

According to the owner manual (see p.23) there a 12 month manufacturer's warranty on the product.

It states in part:

"For the period of One Year from the date of the original purchase, GE Appliances will choose to replace or service the defective unit. In the event of service, GE Appliances will provide any part of the microwave oven which fails due to a defect in materials or workmanship. During this limited one-year warranty, GE Appliances will also provide, free of charge, all labor and related service costs to replace the defective part when the unit is serviced".
